SPARKLEBERRY HILL

Sparkleberries are wild blueberries flourishing in north florida. The trees on our property produce from May to November, some trees bearing early and some later in the season. We pick berries often and with relish, most mornings picking and eating straight from the trees.

_______

This is our favorite tree. Easy pickin's.

No brabbles at your feet, no bending over.

And plenty of berries ripining every day.

It takes awhile to pick enough for a pie. Very Zen.

This tree is farther down the hill and blooming now.

Fairy-like with the white petals carpeting the pine straw.

White blooms cascade down the full height of this 30 ft beauty.

This is my neighbor Reba and Jane-the-Wonder Dog picking sparkleberries.

Or, Reba, is picking berries.

Jane has other ideas.

She eats so many we googled dogs & blueberries and it says that's great.

Skippy the cat joins us when we bring her a ladder. She isrecouperating from a week at uncle-daddy-doctor veteranarian's hospital with a bad bite wound from a feral cat that has plagued us. We baited a no-kill trap with tuna to get him away from our delicate sweetheart.

(She used to chase the neighbor's pitbull back home regularly, but now she's not so spry)

So we waited and finally checked the trap and there was SKIPPY!

We're rethinking the plan.

So she goes back to wait with the Dowager Queen, Lulu. At sixteen she is content to rest until her servants come to take her in to dinner.

And it better have a doiley.

And so after a successful hunt for berries in the back yard, Franko and Jane retire to the way-back machine where Franko remembers when he made hammocks for the commune he lived in back in the Alice's Restaurant days.

Beautiful harvest. Sweet rewards.

Now all we need is a victim, er, house guest to try out our first sparkleberry cobbler.

Very nice first try. There will be more.

And that's when we started calling it Sparkleberry Hill.
